Coach Quinn wants to start of by congratulating this entire team on an amazing season. He is incredibly proud of each and every one of the boys who put their bodies on the line for each other.
In the semi finals, the boys not only had to play the number 1 ranked team in the league, but we had to play them on their home pitch. If the team was intimidated, they didn't show it, smothering De La Salle from the first whistle. Wesley Ireland put the team on his shoulders with and early goal, and spectacular half volley from 25 yards out that went off the post and in and finally followed it up with an assist on a goal by Ethan Esteireiro. Kai Louie added a finally tally, giving the boys a 4-1 win against a team that went undefeated during the regular season. This game was, hands down, the best performance this team had all season. It was quite impressive to watch and number of coaches and teachers made sure to compliment me about the boys performance.
The win set us up on a collision course against Ridley College in the championship game. Unfortunately, after playing our best game of the year, we had a bit of let down in the finals. Our touch was off, our tackles were late and we gave a talented opponent 1 clear chance and they took advantage of it. Going down 1-0 in the first half, the boys battled but it wasn't meant to be.
Final score 1-0 for Ridley.
The team was disappointed with the 2nd place finish. By the end of the year, we were the best team in the league, unfortunately, the best team doesn't always win the final game.
A great season. A great team. And a very proud coach.
Congrats boys!
